Women in Sailing

Women are a rapidly increasing percentage of Victoria’s sailing population. Whether it be in small off the beach dinghies, or large keel boats, it’s easy for women to go sailing. And they can start by doing a recognised introductory sailing course, or by crewing for someone else, as outlined elsewhere in this website.

Several major Victorian Yacht clubs have recognised that women usually enjoy learning in the company of other women, before becoming involved in open activities. These clubs have developed their own "Women in Sailing" programs which aim to provide information, guidance and support to women starting off in sailing. Generally these clubs base their programs on larger keelboats. They also conduct specific women’s regattas.
